The mighty big block Chevy engine is a legendary power plant that has a long history of winning races that continues to this day. Powering everything from stock cars in NASCAR, to McLaren Can Am cars, to ZL-1 Corvettes and Camaros, to Baldwin Motion, Nickey, and Dana specials, to the Big Red Camaro, to offshore racing boats, to thousands of drag racers there’s not a motor sport that hasn’t been dominated by the big block Chevrolet! This engine is callied a “396-427” version but the architecture is the same for any Mark IV big block from the 396 to the 502!
Model Behavior has spent nearly a full year developing an all new replica of the legendary engine for your model build, offering more accuracy and detail than any kit with a beautiful, accurate TH400 Automatic Transmission that now has a separate pan and the option to use a factory pan or a B&M finned pan. The 1/12 Camaro “Direct Fit” big block/TH400 package has been a long anticipated product and will allow the builder to finally build an accurate ZL-1 replica, a standard 396 Camaro, or any Dana, Nickey, Berger, or Baldwin Motion dealer special!
This package also includes a correct Holley Carburetor, factory style valve covers (including a drivers side valve cover with the booster clearance notch), correct GM "windowed" distributor cap, plugs boots, tubular headers that connect with the kit exhaust, oil filter, 14x3" open element air filter, alternator bracket, power steering pump, and drive belt/pulley system with optional bare pulleys for those who wish to use rubber belts they source or make themselves.
The direct fit components included in this package to replace kit components are the basic engine with specific engine mounts, a new crossmember, a power steering box, L-88 style radiator and shroud, the aforementioned headers, along with front and rear u-joints that are used with 1/4” brass tubing to create an accurate driveshaft.
An optional variant that replaces factory components with a Baldwin Motion "Fly-Eye" Air Cleaner/Cast Valve Cover combination is also available!
We call this a “Almost Direct Fit” package because of the crossmember notch in the kit’s floorpan, the builder will need to fill the notch and relocate the included crossmember towards the back of the subframe.
